Velaa Private Island
Located in the Noonu Atoll, Velaa Private Island shares its name and home with the generation of sea turtles that have inhabited the Island for countless years.
Behind the scenes, the owner, Jiri Smejc, has worked hard to create a resort of true privacy and luxury, having spent many weeks in the Maldives on vacation and during business trips from Europe to Asia.
A high-end resort with just 45 exclusive residences, Velaa Private Island is rife in unique features, from the Maldives first ‘snow room’ in the Spa and the first PGA golf academy, to its own Michelin-Star Chef, Adeline Grattard, from Paris.

The wine cellar is one of the most attractive features of the Velaa Maldives, with more than five hundred wines, the largest selection in the Maldives, sourced from boutique wineries to grand marques. This exquisite list has unearthed treasures from across the globe, all housed in the otherworldly 37-foot Tavaru tower with a teppanyaki grill at the top.
Guests can experience everything that the Indian Ocean has to offer with a number of exclusive activities, from a submarine ride, or a ‘James bond-escque’ ride with the Sea Bob to cruising the waves with a stand-up paddleboards, parasailing or kite surfing.
The island also hosts an on-site spa, built above the water at the end of a jetty, which offers a selection of Asian-inspired therapies including Ayurveda, Yoga and Meditation to enhance and promote health and longevity.
One of my absolute favourites. I took my daughter there the last time we visited and stayed in the Beach Pool House. She loved every bit of it especially the jet skis . Its a great options for families and couples alike.
