Maldives has become an incredibly special place to me over the last few years. The natural beauty, the marine life and the food are all integral parts to making the destination so special. However, on my last trip I realised that the service is one of the standout features that makes the Maldives so magical.

It was a beautiful sunny day at Anantara Kihavah and we had a jet ski experience planned for the afternoon. Our jet ski guide took us further out into the deep blue Ocean and as I looked back the hotel was just a small dot in the distance. We stopped at a deserted island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and I had thought to myself this has to be one of the most beautiful spots I had ever been to in the world. Needless to say, I am lucky enough to be able to say my fiance and I got engaged at that spot.

What really hit me was our arrival back onto the island – every member of staff knew about what had been planned and what was happening. Everyone was congratulating us, even if we were just walking past them. The general manager explained that whilst arranging the day with my fiancé, so many other members of staff on the island had helped in some way to make this happen and it just blew me away. That level of thought and attention, to what must be a daily occurrence in the Maldives, was incredible to see and made us feel so special. The hotel made sure that the bubble we were in did not pop whilst we were with them, it was only when we landed in a cold and rainy England that we realised how amazing the whole experience had been. So for me, it doesn’t matter if you travel to the Maldives for a honeymoon, a special birthday or even just a great holiday, the hotel and staff really do transform your stay into something incredibly memorable.
