Owl Luxury Tent
Owl Luxury Tent

The spot-bellied eagle-owl, commonly known as the forest eagle-owl, is a huge bird of prey with a dominating presence. The Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia are home to this forest-dwelling species, which can also be found in Sri Lanka. It is said that in Sri Lankan legend, the woman whose husband murdered their child, went berserk and killed herself in the jungle. The gods changed her after she died into a creature known as the “Ulama,” or “Devil bird,” whose blood-curdling, human-sounding scream in the distant foretells that something dreadful is about to happen. Being around 21 inches (53 cm) long, the owl features heart-shaped markings and conspicuous black-and-white ear tufts, giving a really spooky look. People who are afraid of it, on the other hand, should not be concerned since it exclusively feeds game birds, reptiles, and fish. This mystical bird represented the concept of our tent, which was designed to induce feelings of spirituality, tranquility, and solitude in those who enter its interior.

Eagle Luxury Tent

The Crested Hawk Eagle, sometimes known as the Changeable Hawk Eagle, is a huge predatory bird. They are known as agile forest predators, and like many eagles, they can easily pick between birds, mammals, and reptiles as well as other types of animals as their prey when they hunt. Among the members of its genus, the changeable hawk-eagle stands out as the most extensively dispersed, adaptable, and numerous species. The term “changeable” is derived from the fact that its subspecies can take on either a pale or a dark coloration. One of our fully-furnished luxury tents is named after this creature in an effort to infuse a sense of transcendence into the experience.

Base Occupancy: 2 Adults
Max Occupancy: 4 Adults or 2 Adults and 2 Children

Sloth Bear Deluxe Tent
Sloth Bear Deluxe Tent

The Sri Lankan sloth bear (Melursus ursinus inornatus) is a subspecies of sloth bear found mostly in lowland dry forests on the island. Sri Lanka’s Yala National Park is an excellent place to see them. In the park, there is a sloth bear called Soththi, also known as Limpy and Ballsy, who fell from a Palu tree and injured its wrist after being drunk from eating too many Palu fruits. He made it, and we can still see his hobbling walk when he’s out and about nowadays. One of our deluxe tents is named after this species to bring out its uniqueness among the fully furnished tents.

Base Occupancy: 2 Adults
Max Occupancy: 4 Adults or 2 Adults and 2 Children

Leopard Deluxe Tent
Leopard Deluxe Tent

One of Yala National Park’s most famous leopards, Hamu, was originally spotted in 2004. He created a vast home range in Block 1 and resided there for more than a decade, during which time he raised his family. Many of the massive leopards roaming are said to be descended from Hamu, the godfather of Yala. When we happened to come across Hamu on the Buttawa plains in 2017, it was the last time we witnessed the legendary leopard. In honor of the majestic beasts, whose grace and free spirit we admire, we designed one of our deluxe tents in their likeness.

Base Occupancy: 2 Adults
Max Occupancy: 2 Adults or 2 Adults and 2 Children

Super Luxury Tusker Tent
Super Luxury Tusker Tent

Yala’s most renowned and notorious tusker, Gemunu, was born in Yala National Park in 1991 and was named after King Dutugemunu, the great ruler. On the night of August 17, 2013, Gemunu was wounded by an unknown person or persons. After a clash with a notorious tusker called Sando, the tusker Gemunu lost his first tusk in February 2018 near Koma Wewa, Handunoruwa region. Gemunu lost his last tusk in a fight with another tusker known as Nandimthra, who is a frequent visitor to Yala and hails from the forests of the Sithulpawwa region. Now he roams the Yala grasslands, where he is famed for being tuskless. The inspiration for our Super Luxury Tent stems from this magnificent species to convey an atmosphere of prosperity, peace, and royalty.
