EXPLORE

St. Kitts & Nevis

St. Kitts and Nevis was the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the United States of America. Despite the country’s comparatively small size, the islands are culturally and historically rich, with national parks such as Brimstone Hill Fortress echoing the island’s military history. The islands also have some of the best opportunities to view fauna, with safaris available on both islands to explore the untouched beauty of the mountains and rainforests. In Nevis, there are even touted to be more monkeys than people. Our three partner resorts are ideal if your customers are looking for a relaxing holiday. But St Kitts & Nevis offers plenty to those looking to get out and about. Try the Sunshine’s Beach Bar for authentic hospitality (and awesome Killer Bee cocktails), or coincide travel with the famous Nevis Mango Festival, usually in June or July.

History

The first inhabitants of St. Kitts and Nevis were the Ciboney, considered island settlers since 1000 BC. Like many of the Caribbean Islands, they were displaced by the Taino Arawak people in 800 AD. The two islands were spotted by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to The New World in 1493 and named on the same day. The British established the first colony on St. Kitts and Nevis, which became Britain’s first colony in the Caribbean islands in 1623. St. Kitts and Nevis gained independence from Britain in 1983.
