Geography

Los Cabos sits at the southernmost tip of the Baja California Peninsula, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez (also known as the Gulf of California). Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Gulf is often referred to as the “Aquarium of the World” and a true “gem of conservation,” home to an extraordinary diversity of marine life, including around one-third of the world’s marine mammals. Seasonal whale migrations can be witnessed from December to April, as these majestic creatures travel through the region’s warm waters. Where three unique ecosystems converge, Los Cabos offers a rich and varied landscape. Visitors can hike the peaks of the Sierra de la Laguna mountains, unwind on one of its 25 Blue Flag beaches, or take to the water to explore the iconic rock formations of Land’s End in Cabo San Lucas.

History

Los Cabos has a rich and varied history, shaped by indigenous Pericú communities, Spanish explorers, and its later development as a coastal retreat. Today, this heritage lives on through a thriving arts scene, with the region continuing its strong tradition of creativity and cultural expression. An abundance of exhibitions, galleries and museums provide a platform for local artists, particularly in San José del Cabo’s charming Art District. We highly recommend clients experience the Thursday Art Walk, held between November and June. Annual festivals and events further celebrate this legacy, including Viva la Plaza each Friday, the Day of the Dead Festival Secrets of La Catrina in late October/early November, and the Los Cabos International Film Festival, also held during this period. Together, these events showcase the destination’s unique blend of history, tradition and contemporary culture.
