Our First Hummingbird
Community Project
Hummingbird is proud to launch our initiative in Yala, addressing Human-Leopard Conflict.
In the region, leopards sometimes prey on livestock at night, and farmers may respond with traps or shooting, threatening both humans and wildlife. Hummingbird is tackling this issue by donating a secure cattle fence to a local farmer, providing safe livestock housing that:
- Keeps leopards out, reducing predation.
- Protects farmers’ livelihoods and peace of mind.
- Promotes coexistence without harming wildlife.
This creates a win-win for both farmers and leopards. We’re excited to partner with Leopard Safaris, whose expertise is crucial to making this project a reality.

Support for SOS Children's Village - Sponsor an Orphan

Gentle Giants in the Wild - Human-Elephant Conflict Solutions
In Sri Lanka, the coexistence of wildlife and communities can often lead to conflicts, notably between elephants and local farmers. We have initiated projects to mitigate these conflicts by collaborating with local entities to construct protective barriers. This not only safeguards the crops and livelihoods of local farmers but also preserves the natural habitats of elephants. Your participation can directly support the expansion of these vital barriers.
Flora and Fauna Research Support - Protect a Virgin Rainforest
We are committed to protecting Sri Lanka's rich biodiversity. Our support extends to projects like the long-standing 'Mixed Species Bird Feeding Flock' study. Reviving this crucial research, stalled by the pandemic, involves funding and resources that help protecting a virgin rainforest and understand the island's diverse ecosystems.
Rural Communities - Women Empowerment Initiatives
Empowering women is crucial for societal growth. We support skill-building initiatives that offer women trade workshops in tailoring, enabling them to achieve greater economic independence and confidence. A contribution of $600 can sponsor a workshop and provide a sewing machine to help these women build a sustainable future.
