Meet Zeday, Airport Manager

20 years and 10 months with Hummingbird 

What is your favourite part about the job?
“Meeting and greeting people. I love chatting and making people laugh and it’s very special getting to learn about so many new people.”

Can you tell us about a time you assisted in a difficult situation?
“Unfortunately, sometimes a client has a medical emergency. I will make sure they receive the care they need or get to the hospital. It’s very important to be there to make sure they are as comfortable and reassured as possible.”

What do you think makes the Maldives so special?
“I consider the Maldives to be the safest and most comfortable place in the world!”

What is your favourite part about the job? 

“Meeting people around the globe and fulfilling their needs when they are here in Maldives.”

Can you tell us about a time you assisted in a difficult situation?
“Once I encountered a situation when Heathrow Airport was closed due to fog. There were hundreds of tourists stuck here in Maldives. We were arranging their accommodations and rebooked their tickets to respected destinations. It was a very difficult situation!“

Can you tell us about a time you assisted in a difficult situation?
“Sometimes, unfortunately, we have to deal with clients who get sick or injured while on their holiday. Understandably, this can be distressing for the individual and their families, so we are there to offer support in this situation, as well as making sure they get the care they need.”

What is your favourite part about the job?

“Being able to make people feel welcomed in a new destination or even if it’s not their first time in Maldives.”

Can you tell us about a time you assisted in a difficult situation?

“A client missed their international flight because their domestic flight was delayed, so I assisted them to a hotel in Hulhumale. While they were staying overnight, I negotiated with the airline and booked their flight for the next day. The client was very stressed with the sudden change but I did my best to assist them throughout. In the end we were able to send them off safely.”

When we arrived at the seaplane terminal, our bags were kept separately, collected. We were greeted by Shiyam and then escorted all the way to the check in desk in the main airport. For both arrival and departure, Hummingbird guided us efficiently through everywhere. We guessed that it was part of their meet and greet service. But 10 out of 10 for their service. “My favourite part about the job is meeting new people everyday and seeing their excitement when they visit Maldives.”

Can you tell us about a time you assisted in a difficult situation? 

“Some guests missed their international connections and when they arrived in the Maldives, by the time we received the guest, they had missed their seaplane connection. We organised an alternative domestic flight, handled the upset guests, while keeping them informed about the delays and waiting time for the next flight.”

What do you think makes the Maldives so special?

“Maldives is special because it’s one of the most beautiful countries in the world, the white sand beaches, the coral reefs and natural environment which makes the country so unique and beautiful”

“When my girlfriend and I arrived in the Maldives (a little late, I might add, due to delays in the customs and baggage areas), Jinan met us and shuttled us quickly to our seaplane without any fuss. Soon, we were at our resort. We never had to worry about our luggage; it just seemed to magically disappear from the airport and appear in our villa at the resort. When it was time to leave the Maldives, Jinan met us when we arrived at the airport and helped us through the check-in, baggage check, and customs areas, eliminating the guesswork about what to do and how to do it.”
