Thotalagala
Thotalagala is steeped in history as one of the first 19th century tea planters’ bungalows in Sri Lanka. Having recently been through a masterful restoration, the bungalow has been returned to its former glory, retaining in its every perfect detail, the lush grandeur of its colonial origins. The bungalow consists of seven themed suites based on distinguished personalities of the era and a shared infinity pool overlooking the Haputale escarpment. Thotalagala offers guests a completely immersive and utterly indulgent experience.

Each of the seven suites have been dedicated to the memory of a personality who played an integral role in the development of the Uva province. Each room designed to provide ultimate comfort and luxury.

Thotalagala welcomes all guests with their signature Spiced Hot Chocolate.
The bungalow offers personalised and atmospheric dining experiences for each guest. All meals are catered to personal preferences with allowances made for dietary requirements.
The Bungalow has a communal dining table where guests. However, guests may choose to dine separately anywhere else within the property. Special Dinners are set up at a location of choice within our grounds and Birthdays and Anniversaries are celebrated in style.
Thotalagala offers a wide variety of wines and spirits. All-Inclusive basis includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a selection of beverages throughout the day. In addition, a special high tea will be arranged at the garden of Sir Thomas Lipton’s residence or in the gardens of Thotalagala overlooking the ever-changing scenes over the mountains. (All outside activities are weather dependent)

Haputale is ideally located on the trail between Sri Lanka’s lush mountains and descent towards the south coast, the ancient capital of Kandy and the jungles of Yala and Udawalawe. Haputale is a perfect location to sample the best of Sri Lanka’s tea country, while allowing travellers to experience other significant locations of the area.

Thotalagala, the magnificent tea planter’s bungalow located in Haputale is encircled by 20 acres of charming lawns and flower beds and still maintains the landscaping set out by an ardent British gardening enthusiast. The bungalow lies adjacent to Dambatenne, one of the only estates in the world that Sir Thomas Lipton planted himself, and where the term ‘Ceylon Tea’ was coined. At Thotalagala, guests are welcome to visit and experience Lipton’s Seat, Dambatenne tea factory which was built in the year 1890 and enjoy scenic sundowners at Roper’s Roost.
