Welcome to Part 1 of our Seychelles Island Hopping Guide – your introduction to the vibrant main islands of Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue, plus nearby islands perfect for day trips. These islands blend lush landscapes, Creole culture, lively markets, and stunning beaches. The Inner Islands are the mountainous, granitic islands that form the core of the Seychelles archipelago.

Getting around: Ferries are the most common and convenient mode of transport between the main islands of Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue. Please read on for transfer times.

 

Mahé – The Heart of Seychelles

Mahé is the largest and most populated island, home to the capital city, Victoria. It serves as the hub for many travellers, offering a range of activities from hiking the lush trails of Morne Seychellois National Park to exploring the vibrant markets and heritage sites.

Praslin – The Island of Tranquility

Praslin is home to the famous Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you’ll find the rare Coco de Mer palm tree and other endemic flora and fauna. With its white-sand beaches, such as Anse Lazio, Praslin offers a perfect combination of nature and relaxation.

La Digue – A Step Back in Time

La Digue is one of the most picturesque islands in Seychelles, where time seems to slow down. Traditional ox-carts replace cars, and the island’s lush nature and stunning beaches, like Anse Source d'Argent, make it a photographer’s dream. Perfect for cycling around the island or simply soaking in the sun.
