Lottie, our Sales Manager, recently visited the beautiful Vakkaru Maldives, here were her thoughts:
"At the end of August, I had the chance to visit Vakkaru as one of the last stops on my holiday. I’ve heard through many Hummingbirds, who have been lucky enough to visit Vakkaru, that it has this charm you immediately feel once you step foot on the island and I couldn’t agree more.
We took a seamless speedboat journey from InterContinental in Raa Atoll which took only 35 minutes - upon arriving, you could instantly see how lush and green the island is which I think gives Vakkaru the reputation of being one of the most naturally beautiful islands in the Maldives. Alam, who was our brilliant host then took us to our beautiful One Bedroom Beach Pool Residence and from the minute we walked through the door, I felt at home.
It’s incredibly spacious, which is very elegantly designed but not to distract you from the beautiful views you have of the ocean right on your doorstep. What I loved most about this villa type is that you have a private pool but it’s to the rear garden side which is directly outside of your bathroom. This is perfect for those that are looking for ultimate privacy, in your own sanctuary whilst still having the sunshine all day. One of the real standouts for me at Vakkaru was the sheer amount of thought that goes into making everyone’s stay so personal. From the pillow menu & “His & hers” amenities in the room to all of the activities like padel, sunset fishing cruises & an extraordinary wine tasting experience in the famous Vakkaru Reserve – there really is something for everyone!
On the subject of food and wine, if you were to ask someone who knew me very well, they would say that it’s something I don’t stop talking, thinking or obsessing about. I am always seeking out to find some of the best restaurants, wine bars & everything in between across the world and it is something that comes into serious consideration when choosing where to stay next!
One of my favourite experiences at Vakkaru had to be the wine tasting experience at Vakkaru Reserve – my partner is a sommelier and to be able to experience this with someone who knows a lot about wine already, showed how amazingly talented the team are. It’s such a unique experience and something I would highly recommend doing whilst on the island as there are so few islands in the Maldives that have this offering.
Lastly, the team at Vakkaru are really what made our stay so special – before we arrived, they asked for our personal preferences from what our favourite cuisines were to what water sport activities, beverage & spa treatments we prefer so they can create the perfect stay for you. This totally elevated our stay as we knew we were looked after in the best way possible. The amount of joy and warmth you receive from every interaction with the team, is what made our stay truly memorable."
