Yet to visit St Lucia and top of the current bucket list is to get to Jade Mountain, with the incredible view of the Pitons. Which I then want to climb. On the list is also Alphonse Island, Seychelles and Secret Bay, Dominica.

Surfing near Maalifushi by COMO with only two other people for company. Great waves and no crowds.

Insider Tip

Obvious one, but the Maldives is a year round destination. Travel in May & June and you will get a great deal and almost certainly great weather. One more would be Kumana National Park in Sri Lanka for a less crowded experience.

I was lucky to grow up in the Maldives and Sri Lanka and still count those countries as home. With early family visits to Mauritius and Seychelles, it has forever cemented a love of the Indian Ocean and its people.

This has fostered a lifelong passion for all things over and under water, especially diving and windsurfing as well as a general love of adventure and the exploring of unknown destinations. I am very happy that we are now able to give something back to these countries.

That is not to say we don’t have our fair share of rainfall between May to October, but the fact that even on rainy days, it pours only for a few hours and is still very warm is such an important factor that’s often overlooked! We are indeed always sunny! 🙂

Right after I graduated I joined a travel agency in the Maldives. I fell in love with the industry immediately and believe that this is just the perfect career for me. One of the best parts about working in the Reservations Department is that I get to travel. This one has nothing to do with visiting a luxury resort or sunset dolphin cruise, but the FIFA World Cup Trophy was on tour before the 2018 tournament and I was lucky enough to see it while I was living in Male! I would have never imagined that it could have happened to me in the Maldives. As a big football fan, those vivid recollections stood out above the others.

I went for a morning snorkel while staying at Sirru Fen Fushi and saw a pod of dolphins and a manta ray within metres of me in their house reef! I feel very lucky to have experienced this with no one else around.

When possible, try to stay in more than one location on a trip. It's a great way to explore! For example, Sri Lanka and Maldives make an incredible combo.

In a previous role I was offered the opportunity to go filming across the Caribbean for a month and fell in love with the destination! Seaside FINOLHU Maldives - a super easy going luxury resort where all staff is joyfully making every guests stay a blissful experience. The house reef is full of life and colors and such delight to explore. The sandbank walk at sunset to go to Crab Shack with the waves coming from both sides has been the most romantic experience in my life. Barefoot dinner at Crab Shack with the moon and stars above us is an experience I would go back over and over again.

Helicopter transfers in St Lucia are 100% the way to arrive. Not only is it like an island tour it can get you to the north of the island so quickly (the traffic can be bad at certain times of the day)

My name is Azhan Adam, and I starting working in the travel industry in 2012 with Underwater Travel, where I spent four years providing meet-and-greet services. In December 2016, I joined the Hummingbird Travel airport team, where I have now completed eight years of service. COVID pandemic limited staff to work access in airport. Most of the country borders closed. All the clients appreciate Hummingbird Airport team service.

Having lived in my hometown of Fuvahmulah for most of my life, a few years back I jumped at the opportunity of travelling to a few islands across Northern Maldives. And I realised what I was missing out on. Although I was still in the Maldives, the different people, food and culture I experienced were so different to what I had ever seen. It changed my view on travelling and I hope to explore more of this on this journey with Hummingbird.

My role in hummingbird is collecting payment for bookings and ensuring that we are able to pay the resorts on time, it pretty much works in my favour that I am one to work well under pressure. Thanks to Hummingbird, along with my passion for accounting, I have come to discover my interest in dealing with customers. I like to spend time with my family and making memories. Among all the various resorts, I have so far fallen in love with Six Senses Laamu, being one of the few resorts I have visited.
