A Talk with Barbara Rosa
Barbara has a wealth of knowledge with seven years working in the industry and the past year as Patina’s Director of Sales in Europe and the UK, she is the perfect candidate to talk all things Patina. We asked her for her thoughts on unique aspects of Patina such as the ideology behind their distinct design choices and their wellness approach at Fari Studios. Read her answers below.

Can you explain Patina’s Marcio Kogan’s design philosophy?
Marcio Kogan’s philosophy is rooted in quiet minimalism that feels deeply human. Rather than creating spaces that demand attention, he designs environments that allow life to unfold naturally within them. At Patina Maldives, this translates into architecture that feels calm, balanced, and intuitive.
His approach is about stripping away the unnecessary so that what remains feels intentional and meaningful. The design becomes a frame for experience rather than the experience itself. This aligns with Patina’s belief in creating transformative moments that evolve with each guest, forming part of a perpetual journey rather than a fixed narrative.

What intentional design choices define Patina Maldives?
At Patina, every design decision is purposeful and rooted in how a guest feels within the space. Open layouts create a sense of freedom rather than structure. Spaces are uncluttered, allowing the mind to slow down and the body to relax. This reflects the brand’s concept of flow, where environments adapt to the guest’s rhythm instead of imposing one. The indoor and outdoor experience is seamlessly connected. Sliding walls dissolve boundaries so that the ocean, light, and breeze become part of daily living. You do not step outside to experience nature. You are already within it.
A defining example is James Turrell’s Skyspace, where architecture and art dissolve into one. Framed by an aperture open to the sky, the space transforms with shifting light and colour, encouraging guests to slow down and become aware of their own perception. It is not something to simply observe, but something to experience.
What do you want guests to feel through this design?
At Patina Maldives, the intention is not to impress instantly, but to resonate over time. Guests are meant to feel a sense of calm that comes from simplicity and space. Without visual noise, attention shifts to subtle details like light, texture, and sound. There is also a natural sense of belonging. The spaces feel intuitive, almost familiar, as if they were designed around the guest rather than for them. This reflects Patina’s thoughtful and human approach to hospitality, where connection is at the core of every experience.
Ultimately, Patina creates a balance between sanctuary and stimulation. A place where you can retreat into stillness or step into moments of energy, all within the same environment. This is what takes Patina beyond the Maldives norm. It is not just a place you stay. It is a place you feel.

How do Fari Studios integrate wellness into the Patina experience?
Fari Studios approach wellness as something effortless and woven into everyday living, rather than structured or scheduled. Located within Fari Marina Village, they place guests at the centre of a social yet balanced environment, where calm and restoration are always within reach.
Wellness is not confined to a spa, but experienced through movement, connection, and rhythm, from slow walks or cycles across the island to mindful moments at Flow Spa or stillness within the studios’ clean, minimal spaces. The architecture is designed to create clarity and ease, reflecting Patina’s philosophy that wellbeing is a continuous state shaped by the surroundings, pace, and choices.
