A group of our Hummingbirds recently returned from an unforgettable island-hopping trip to the Seychelles, exploring both the lush, mountainous inner islands and the remote, coral beauty of Platte Island. The contrast between the granite landscapes of Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue, and the flat, white-sand serenity of Platte made this a real ‘best-of-both-worlds’ kind of journey.

First Stop: Canopy Seychelles, Mahé Island

The adventure kicked off on Mahé, where the team was warmly welcomed by our local Hummingbird representatives and driver before heading to Canopy Seychelles, just a short drive from the airport, making it a perfect first stop on an island hopping adventure. The hotel made a great first impression with its bright, colourful interiors, spacious layout, and relaxed, friendly vibe. It feels modern and easy-going and great value without feeling at all basic.

One of the highlights was the complimentary rum tasting with Richard, who’s not only passionate about local spirits but also the man behind the bar crafting some seriously good cocktails. He even crafted a custom drink for one of the founding brothers of the renowned local rum, Takamaka, who was thoroughly impressed. The pool bar became a favourite sundowner spot, and the complimentary free-flowing champagne at breakfast didn’t hurt either!

Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island, Outer Coral Island

From Mahé, the team caught a short domestic flight to Platte Island, a remote paradise and home to the luxurious Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island. Landing on the island’s private runway in the centre of the island with a warm welcome waiting at the pavilion set the tone for something special.

The villas are spacious, elegant, and genuinely peaceful, perfect for unwinding between excursions. It’s really a place to be in touch with nature, from cycling down the runway after dark to enjoying the stars in full force, to turtle watching at the jetty, the island really feels like a remote slice of paradise. Another big standout was the food at Maison des Epices. The curries and octopus dishes were absolutely top-tier, which, coming from our Maldivian team who eats seafood and spice at home, says a lot. The team also loved the story telling element at Maison des Epices, where after the meal they got to try the resort’s very own Takamaka rum, right from the barrel. A relaxing afternoon of coconut painting with music and mingling with other guests was another lovely moment. It’s the kind of place that feels both luxurious and personal at the same time.

Anantara Maia, Mahé Island

After Platte Island, it was back to Mahé for a stay at Anantara Maia and the team instantly fell in love. Set into the hillside with panoramic views, each villa is totally private and beautifully designed. The private butler service was spot-on, adding an effortless, personal feel to the stay. Being able to dine in-villa at no extra cost was a huge plus, especially with views like that.

The spa tucked into the greenery was a little sanctuary of its own, the perfect spot for a relaxing massage or morning yoga. Just below the resort, the beach was perfect for leisurely afternoon swims. While some areas are rocky, the attentive staff were always on hand to guide to the best spots for a safe and relaxing dip. Anantara Maia is one of those places that makes you instantly slow down and breathe, it was the perfect reset before continuing the journey.

Kempinski Seychelles Resort, Praslin Island

The group then took the ferry to Praslin, a journey that took just over an hour. It’s a very convenient journey, though for clients prone to seasickness, we’d recommend the quick domestic flight instead, especially during choppier months.

They started their stay at Kempinski, a large resort that works well for families and MICE groups, with a great mix of activities, facilities and space to relax. Set on a calm lagoon with wide open views, there’s a relaxed, beachy vibe throughout. The beach bar is the perfect place to wind down, and if you’re booking a Superior Hill View Room, we’d recommend going for one on the first floor for more privacy.

Le Duc de Praslin, Praslin Island

Next up was Le Duc de Praslin, a much-loved local hotel that’s excellent value. The hotel also has three private villas, each tucked into a quiet residential area just a few minutes from the main hub. Villas are named after their unique view, and all come with a rental car or two (depending on the number of guests), which are now all automatic, making it super easy to explore the island independently.

The area where the villas are set has its own night-time security, a fully equipped kitchen, and even two butlers, which really elevates the experience. Across the main resort, there are three pools, including a peaceful adults-only pool located with the Ocean Rooms (16+), which makes for a more relaxed vibe in certain areas. While there’s no kids’ club, babysitting can be arranged, and couples staying three nights in a Honeymoon Room enjoy lovely perks like a candlelit dinner and a massage.

The resort sits on the 2.5 kilometre Cote D'Or Beach, one of the best on the island, on which the group enjoyed the perfect long morning. The beach parties, held a few times a week, add a fun energy to the evenings without taking away from the peaceful atmosphere during the day. Le Duc is ideal for both groups and couples wanting a genuine Seychellois experience.

Raffles Seychelles, Praslin Island

The next stop was the Raffles Seychelles, which really impressed with its peaceful, private setting. The villas are spread out nicely, giving everyone plenty of space, and the views over to Curieuse Island from the deck were just stunning. The private plunge pools were a big hit, and while the beach is small, it’s cosy and quiet. For long stretches of sand, we’d suggest planning a day trip to Anse Lazio or Anse Georgette, both nearby and absolutely worth it.

Slowing Things Down, A Day on La Digue Island

Before heading to the next hotel, the group caught the ferry over to La Digue, which takes just 15 minute, where things instantly felt like a step back in time. They were met by a local company supplying bikes, which are the best way to explore the island at your own pace. Riding through palm-lined paths to L'Union Estate, they passed by giant tortoises on their way to the famous Anse Source d’Argent, a beach so beautiful it almost looked unreal.

Coco de Mer, Praslin Island

Later that day, the group headed to Coco de Mer, which has a really laid-back, friendly vibe that makes you feel at home the moment you arrive. It wasn’t trying to be ultra-luxury, and honestly, we loved that about it. It’s chilled, unpretentious, and tucked into a quiet little bay. Perfect if you’re after something relaxed and peaceful.

The group stayed in the Standard Rooms, which were all sea-facing (a big plus). The rooms are simple, but spacious and comfy. Some are interconnected, which makes them ideal for families or friends travelling together. The staff are genuinely lovely, always happy to help and smiling. It was the kind of place where you could really slow down, unplug, and just enjoy being on island time.

All in all, Coco de Mer is a great pick for anyone looking for a peaceful, value-for-money stay with genuine service and a local feel.

Just a little heads-up - the minibar comes empty, but you can stock it yourselves or ask the team to help. Everything was really flexible and easygoing.

Anse Lazio, Praslin Island

The wrap things up, the team spent a morning at Anse Lazio, which ended up being one of their favourite swimming spots of the whole trip. With clear turquoise water, soft sand, and those iconic granite boulders, it’s exactly the kind of beach you imagine when you think of the Seychelles. Great for a relaxing morning or afternoon and a must-do when on Praslin.

Final Sundowners at The Beach Shak, Mahé Island

Back on Mahé for their final night, the team headed to The Beach Shak, a casual local bar perfect for sundowners (which was actually recommended by Richard, the bartender from Canopy). Watching the sunset with a cocktail in hand was the perfect way to end the adventure, though a word of warning, the Rasta Mai Tai packs a serious punch!

Final Thoughts

From five-star luxury to laid-back charm, remote coral islands to lively beach bars, the Seychelles delivered it all. What really impressed the group was the ease of travelling between the islands, it makes it a no brainer to spend your time in the Seychelles island hopping. Whether planning a honeymoon, a family break, or a bit of both, this destination has something to fall in love with at every stop.
