"Vodi is an incredible wave. During the May to September season, it’s a powerful, fast wave which is definitely suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. From November to April, it becomes much more accessible and is an amazing experience for beginner to intermediate surfers too."

For guests completely new to surfing, Niyama also offers a smaller channel wave, making it a great introduction before progressing onto bigger breaks.

However, James’ standout dining experience was Nest, a restaurant unlike any other.

"Nest was a real highlight. It feels like you’re genuinely in the middle of a jungle paradise. Being surrounded by the sounds of birds and sitting amongst the treetops makes it such an immersive and unique experience."

For honeymooners, food lovers or clients celebrating a special occasion, Nest is an experience James believes should not be missed.

For the perfect Maldives evening, James recommends two must-visit locations.

"Surf Shack is a really cool place to check out, the cocktails are incredible and it’s a great spot to catch the sunset."

For something more unique, Edge offers sunset cocktails and dining in the middle of the ocean, reached by boat and located close to Subsix, Niyama’s famous underwater dining venue.

"Edge is such a cool concept. Being out in the middle of the sea makes it feel like a real experience rather than just another restaurant."
