As specialists in the Indian Ocean, we’ve heard it all when it comes to Maldives misconceptions. This summer, we're helping you challenge the most common myths and giving you the facts to help your clients book with confidence. Here's how to turn hesitation into inspiration!

Myth: “The Maldives isn’t very good for families, it’s a couples destination"

Truth: While the Maldives is ideal for romantic escapes, it’s also one of the best luxury family destinations. Many resorts offer incredible kids' clubs, marine education centres, child-friendly villas, and tailored family experiences, from snorkelling with manta rays to pizza-making classes. Resorts like Soneva, Six Senses, Niyama, and Siyam World cater brilliantly to multi-generational travel.

What sets the Maldives apart is the educational element woven into the fun. Resorts increasingly offer enriching kids' camps and learning-led activities. Think the Patina FC Bayern Munich Football Camp, where children develop real skills with professional coaching, or COMO’s Space Camp, which blends play with science and creativity. These programmes go beyond entertainment, they inspire, educate, and create lasting memories.

Myth: “There’s nothing to do in the Maldives - you’re stuck on one island.”

Truth: Each island is its own adventure hub. From diving with manta rays to surfing world-class breaks, sunset fishing, cooking classes, spa rituals, dolphin cruises, and sandbank picnics - there’s plenty to do! Many resorts also offer excursions to visit local islands for the day. Island hopping is easier than ever, so for clients that love to explore, we'd recommend a split stay, or resorts that offer combined facilities

Myth: “The Maldives is too expensive. Europe is better value.”

Truth: With a range of price points, all-inclusive plans, and seasonal offers, the Maldives can compete with Europe, especially when you consider the privacy, service, and bucket-list scenery. Plus, shoulder season offers incredible value with fewer crowds.

Myth: “The weather isn’t good in the Maldives out of season.”

Truth: Summer is Manta Ray Season in the Maldives! While there might be the occasional shower, the sea is warm, and many days are sunny. With the summer months being the most common time for our team to visit the Maldives, we have experienced firsthand, year after year, the amazing weather this period presents. It's also the best time for surfing, diving, and wildlife encounters, with fantastic offers and availability.

Myth: “If it’s not on a natural island, the resort is very bare.”

Truth: Artificially enhanced islands are built with design, eco-consciousness, and guest experience in mind. Resorts like Patina Maldives and Waldorf Astoria on reclaimed islands offer lush landscaping, coral regeneration projects, and seamless luxury.

Myth: “There’s not much culture in the Maldives.”

Truth: Maldivian heritage is rich with influences from Africa, Arabia, and Asia. Guests can explore local islands, enjoy traditional cuisine, bodu beru drumming, and crafts. Many resorts, such as Fushifaru, Makunudu and Cora Cora now incorporate authentic cultural experiences into their offerings.

Myth: “The Maldives is too far to go.”

Truth: With increasing direct and one-stop flights from all major UK and European hubs, the Maldives is a smooth overnight journey. No jet lag, tropical skies when you land, and easy seaplane or speedboat transfers await.

Myth: “The Maldives is a once-in-a-lifetime destination, you don’t need to go back.”

Truth: The Maldives is a many-times-in-a-lifetime destination. With over 150 resorts, each island offers a totally unique experience, from ultra-luxury to active family fun. Guests often return to explore new islands and styles of stay.

Myth: “It’s hard to get around and explore.”

Truth: With our expert ground handling, smooth logistics, and growing domestic networks, island hopping is easier than ever. Combine a few islands for a twin-centre experience or explore local culture and atolls beyond the usual.

Myth: “The Maldives is overrated.”

Truth: Our repeat guests would strongly disagree. The Maldives offers genuine barefoot luxury, astonishing marine life, world-class service, and an unmatched sense of peace. There's a reason it’s consistently top of the wish-list.
