I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit Mauritius back in July 2019. Mauritius is the perfect destination for adventure and activities, beautiful beaches, great food, lovely people and luxury resorts. As the country is made of a mix of different ethnicities they have a really unique culture, and the style of many of the hotels reflects this as well as a hint of the colonial style. It’s got a bit of something for everyone, whether that be a honeymoon couple, a group of friends or a family – the variety it has to offer is endless. And another great plus is – it’s very quick and easy to get around the island!
Quad biking in the Federica Nature Reserve
This was an incredible experience, and perfectly matched with staying at any of the Heritage properties. From the main centre you can either rent quad bikes or safari jeeps and explore the nature reserve with a guide, he took us to some waterfalls and some great look out points and it was really incredible to see the natural rugged terrain of Mauritius – and some monkeys too!
Traditional cooking experience ‘Kot Marie Michelle’
I loved this because you have a truly authentic experience. We were invited to a local lady’s home and she cooked us traditional Mauritian food while an interpreter explained what we were eating. Her house is in the centre of the island amongst the sugar cane fields and it’s so cool to see how the locals live and get a taste of rural life.
Tour of Port Louis
It was great to see Port Louis and learn about the history of Mauritius. Our Emotions guide Clifford took us to the fort which overlooks the whole city and the sea and explained the various stages of Mauritian history, then he took us through the city to the local market where we picked up some traditional street food and bought some hand made products.
‘One Love’ boat excursion
This was the best day out and would highly recommend to our clients! Perfect for either a group or a honeymoon couple. We went in a 25ft speedboat and first to a reef area for snorkelling, then on to a number of the small isles off the coast. This was followed by a BBQ lunch on the beach with freshly caught seafood, along with champagne which was included in the day excursion price. We also visited some waterfalls and another isle before heading back.
